Beat Your Bloat with Maeve Madden

BEAT YOUR BLOAT WITH MAEVE MADDEN

Let's face it you're probably reading this because at some stage you have suffered from abdominal bloating so bad you could have been mistaken as pregnant.
Serious sweats, cramping, gas and the fact that I feel more like Regina George from Mean Girls half the time because sweat pants are all that fit me. Sound familiar?

Bloating causes us so much physical discomfort and always seems to come at the most inconvenient of times. I'm going to share with you some of my top day to day tips and new habits to getting you started on your health and fitness journey. I promise taking care of yourself is so much easier than you think. Once you know all the right ingredients to use your over half way there and luckily I have done the majority of the hard work for you!

A few common reasons we may bloat are:
Hormones - getting your period
Dehydration - gym sweats and especially on a flight
Food intolerances or sensitivities - lactose intolerance is a common digestive problem
IBS - a common condition effecting the digestive system. 2 in 10 people suffer from IBS
PCOS - this effects 1 in 10 women

Nutrition, fitness and mindfulness makes a happier you. A happy mind leads to healthier eating and an energised body will inspire you to make better food choices to fuel those awesome workouts.

LET US BEGIN
Staying hydrated is key. Drink as much still filtered water through out the day as you can. I always carry around a reusable ocean friendly bottle, keeping it economical. Sweat is how we cool our body down, but excessive sweating can cause us to be dehydrated, make sure your getting plenty of water in and out of the gym during these hot summer months.

INVEST IN YOUR REST
Sleeping beauty had the right idea, ok maybe not 100 years but between 7-9 hours of sleep per night will do your body the world of good. Not only is this beneficial for muscle recovery but encourages the normalisation of bowel function.

EAT THIS, NOT THAT
Dairy is my arch enemy, not only me but in fact dairy isn’t well tolerated by those who suffer from IBS or PCOS but luckily there are so many dairy free alternatives we can have to help prevent any of those unwanted symptoms.

Beat Your Bloat with a Smoothie Bowl

AM I VEGAN?
No! Do I use vegan alternative products? YES 100%.

POST-WORKOUT
So you probably know by now that what you eat/drink after the gym can be just as important as the workout. I use 40g (4 yellow scoops) of Protein World Chocolate Vegan Blend mixed with coconut milk, mmmmm taste the paradise!

However you can use your tub of Protein World vegan deliciousness to add protein to more than just a shake. Smoothie bowls (check out our recipes here), frozen banana ice-cream, oats in the morning, even some slender pancakes, having that extra protein will help you stay fuller for longer too.

BE ACTIVE TO BEAT YOUR BLOAT!
Do not skip the sweat!! Keep moving. Do not ignore the warning signs, when you begin to feel a little discomfort, hit up a workout. It can be doing some HIIT at home, heading to the gym, taking the dog for a walk or heading for a run, gas retention is significantly lower in people who do some form of cardio than those who don’t. I recommend getting in 30 minutes of activity per day.

Our health is so dependent on our habits and nutrition so fall in love with taking care of yourself.
