8 MINDSET HABITS TO ACHIEVE WEIGHT LOSS

Weight loss can be a roller coaster of highs and lows, but usually weight gain is a result of inconsistency and the product of a negative environment – stress, lack of time, anxiety as a result of work!

Without first getting your head into a place of positivity, focusing on all of the benefits of weight loss – better health, more energy, reduction of disease, you will continue to focus on the negative and down the path of self deprecation, focusing on quick fixes which aren’t sustainable and will eventually lead your weight loss journey full circle.

For any weight loss journey to be successful you need to get your head in the right place so give these 5 simple mindset habits a go to get started on the right track.

new year, new you

1. Set smaller goals
Achieving weight loss means doing something differently with your eating habits. By making drastic changes you are less likely to stick to your new regime which means falling off track and having to start back at square one. Rather than focusing on the end goal (e.g. drop 2 dress sizes) focus on smaller bitesize daily or weekly goals that are easier to track and tick off as you go. For example did you drink 2 litres of water today? YES – tick it off. Did you eat 5 portions of fruit and veg? YES, that’s another goal met. The Slender Plan now has a 4 week progress tracker allowing you to tick off each day as you go, helping you to stay in control of the little things which eventually will add up to BIG changes!

2. Surround yourself with positivity
It seems the obvious choice however many of us easily fall into the pattern of self-hate. Figure out what triggers your negative thoughts and work towards turning them in to a positive, which is much easier when you surround yourself with people that support the journey that you are on and provides an emotionally healthy environment to start looking after yourself.

3. Food is not a reward
Remember that weight loss is about improving your health and practicing self-care. Food is not a reward and exercise is not a punishment so remember that the next time you feel like cursing before going to the gym. Exercise releases endorphins and makes you feel just as good as food, and they are both ways of looking after your body.

4. Remember to breathe
Taking a few minutes at the start of your day to just sit and breathe can be the difference between having a good day and a great day. Grab a cup of Slender Day Tea and use the time to visualise how you want your day to go, thinking about how that would make you feel. Set your intentions, smile and start the day the way you mean to go on.

5. Make a note
One of the best tools for success is to document your journey – keep track of your food, exercise and mood. By providing information about your mood and diet, you can keep track of your eating patterns which can help in giving you feedback on what changes you may need to make to stay on track, and also what triggers you into your bad eating habits.
