TIPS FOR EMBRACING A MEAT FREE MONTH
There’s something wonderful about January; the energy and positivity surrounding New Year’s Resolutions is tangible. For many of us, we look to the kitchen as the source of this change. Maybe this means resolving to waste less, make healthier choices, or to have an animal-free diet. One resolution which may result in all of the above is giving Veganism a try. Read on for our top 5 tips for dipping your toes into the world of plant-based eating.
1. Get nerdy
When choosing to embark on a new diet it’s super important to embrace your inner nerd and do a bit of research. Any dietary shift can be tricky so going over the basics of plant-based nutrition to ensure your diet is healthy, balanced and contains everything your body needs is essential before you begin. At Protein World, we have a team of qualified Nutrition Advisors that can help.
2. Start simple
Whilst veganism will most definitely help expand your palate, you don’t need to completely re-think your culinary repertoire. The best place to start is by considering some of your favourite meals and how they can be adapted to be meat- and dairy-free. At Protein World, we’ve done just this; just like our regular Slender Pancakes we created our Vegan Pancakes which are also a high-protein, low-sugar, low-calorie breakfast option. For lunch and dinner, it may be as simple as swapping a chicken breast or eggs for another quality protein source such as beans, tofu, tempeh or nuts and seeds.
3. Give Vegan products a go
It’s super important to include whole foods in your diet and it’s fun to sometimes experiment to create your own homemade ingredients (take almond milk or tofu cheese, for example). However, it’s also great to try products that are especially for Vegans. This is important when you’re starting out and finding your feet and can be a godsend when you’re short on time. For example, our Vegan Blend provides 25g of protein from Pea, Quinoa and Hemp, which helps in the maintenance of muscle mass when used after workouts. When used as a meal replacement in the context of a calorie restricted diet, the Vegan Blend contributes to weight loss. Meanwhile, the added digestive enzymes, pre and probiotics promote a healthy gut, and 26 vitamins and minerals support overall health.
4. Make it inclusive
Involving others in your journey can be essential in ensuring success. Whether it’s just letting people know about your goal, or having a friend or family member join you, involving others makes the ride easier and a lot more fun! Food is all about sharing so do your best to share this positive lifestyle change with the people you care about, even if they’re not making the change with you.
5. Join a community
If friends and family members aren’t down to explore veganism with you, it’s possible to find that community spirit elsewhere. For example, our Protein World Community group is an amazing source of positive advice and support, where you can ask questions, learn from others and make connections with those on a similar journey. A Vegan diet can be beneficial to both your health and the environment. Try the above tips this January for a meat-free month that will help you looking and feeling incredible.
